Case Study | AI Boosts Heart Disease Detection in Primary Care
To improve early detection of structural heart disease, Florida-based Naples Comprehensive Health integrated Eko’s AI-powered SENSORA® platform into its primary care clinics. Today, providers are identifying more heart disease sooner — and delivering life-saving care without delay.

The Problem
Structural heart disease (SHD) often goes undiagnosed in its early stages, especially in older adults, leading to delayed interventions and worsening outcomes. At Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH), primary care providers knew they were missing opportunities to detect SHD sooner. They needed a solution to identify more disease earlier, increase appropriate referrals, and keep patients within their system for timely cardiac care.
The Solution
NCH partnered with Eko to implement the SENSORA® Cardiac Disease Detection Platform across 11 primary care clinics. With support from Eko’s clinical enablement team, medical assistants and providers were trained to use SENSORA during routine wellness visits. The AI-powered platform seamlessly integrated into the workflow, helping teams flag structural murmurs and other cardiac concerns at the point of care — often before symptoms appeared.
The Outcome
In just 18 months, NCH completed over 3,300 SENSORA exams. Nearly 1 in 4 patients screened had a positive result, leading to tripled echocardiogram referrals and a 2.4x increase in cardiology referrals. Importantly, 84% of patients with a positive SENSORA result and subsequent echo had confirmed SHD of mild or greater severity. Providers reported increased diagnostic confidence, and 100% of staff found the tool easy to use. For patients, SENSORA meant earlier detection, faster intervention, and improved care — without ever leaving their primary care clinic.
