Case Study: Modern Cardiology Practice Elevates Diagnostic Confidence With Eko

Posted in Customer Stories

Incredible Heart, a preventive cardiology clinic in St. Louis, was founded in 2024 with a bold vision: make cardiac care faster, clearer, and more patient-centered. Led by board certified cardiologist Dr. Kunal Gurav, the clinic blends same-day appointments, direct communication, and a team-based approach to help high-risk patients stay well — and stay out of the hospital.

From day one, technology has been central to how the clinic delivers on that promise. To deepen its focus on early detection and patient engagement, Incredible Heart adopted Eko’s SENSORA® platform and the CORE 500™ Digital Stethoscope as part of their everyday workflow.

What followed was a transformation — not just in how the team detects heart disease, but in how patients experience and understand their care.

The Problem

Incredible Heart was designed to be different: modern, tech-forward, and focused on early detection, which meant every tool needed to support timely decision making. But despite same-day access and a modern approach to care, the team ran into a familiar roadblock: traditional tools couldn’t always keep up with the clinic’s goals.

A standard stethoscope and ECG offered only part of the picture. Subtle abnormalities, especially in patients with nonspecific symptoms, often required follow-up testing to confirm. That introduced delays, created uncertainty, and sometimes slowed down care that needed to happen fast.

For a practice designed to deliver answers in real time, this wasn’t good enough. The team needed a smarter, more complete way to assess heart health at the point of care — without sacrificing the speed and simplicity patients had come to expect.

The Solution

To support its preventive mission and offer patients a more modern, informative visit, Incredible Heart integrated Eko’s SENSORA platform and CORE 500™ Digital Stethoscope into its daily workflow. Their team is now able to:

Provide a more complete exam during each visit.
Eko now plays a central role in routine patient assessments. Instead of switching between tools or relying on separate follow-up testing, Incredible Heart clinicians capture high fidelity heart sounds and a 3-lead ECG in one step. SENSORA analyzes both signals within seconds and highlights potential low ejection fraction, atrial fibrillation, or structural murmurs. This fits the clinic’s emphasis on early detection and allows the provider to make decisions immediately when subtle symptoms appear.

Have a workflow that empowers medical assistants.
Medical assistants use Eko during intake, which has become a consistent part of the clinic’s process. They complete one-point exams during busy periods or three-point exams when a more comprehensive look is needed. Because audio is amplified and the interface is easy to navigate, staff feel confident capturing high quality data before the clinician enters the room.

Create a more transparent and collaborative patient experience.
With the use of Eko’s technology, patients hear their own heart sounds and see their ECG on screen, which helps them understand what the provider is evaluating. The experience reinforces trust and closes the gap between what the clinician hears and what the patient understands.

“When patients can see and hear what I am evaluating, the entire experience changes. It builds trust and strengthens their engagement in their care.”

Enable preventive, proactive decision-making.
Because SENSORA flags subtle abnormalities that may not be audible or obvious through traditional tools, the team can act sooner. This aligns directly with Incredible Heart’s goal of preventing avoidable hospitalizations and helping patients stay healthy at home.

Have a path to workflow optimization.
The clinic is designing a model where medical assistants perform Eko exams and Dr. Gurav reviews PCG and ECG recordings asynchronously. Eko’s Telehealth capabilities already support secure sharing and remote listening, which allows the clinic to expand access and maintain the high-touch environment patients value.

The Outcome

Within two months of using SENSORA, Incredible Heart identified two patients with previously undiagnosed low ejection fraction.

Subtle symptoms revealed significant findings.
A woman in her fifties came in with fatigue and mild leg swelling. SENSORA flagged low ejection fraction and displayed a left bundle branch block on the ECG. A follow-up echocardiogram confirmed an ejection fraction of 35 to 40. Early initiation of guideline-directed medical therapy improved her symptoms quickly.

“For one patient, SENSORA flagged low ejection fraction despite a normal rhythm and no murmur. That changed the entire trajectory of their care.”

Alcoholic cardiomyopathy detected early.
Another patient presented with fatigue and lightheadedness. Despite a normal rhythm and no audible murmur, SENSORA indicated low ejection fraction. The echocardiogram confirmed an ejection fraction of 25 to 30. With alcohol reduction and medical therapy, the patient experienced significant improvement and later returned to normal function.

Incredible Heart is preparing to launch Express Heart Care, a rapid cardiac screening service that allows patients to receive a SENSORA exam, an ECG, a cholesterol finger stick, a blood pressure check, and a quick functional capacity test without scheduling a full physician visit. Dr. Gurav will review the results and provide recommendations.

“Eko strengthens my clinical judgment. It supports my thinking rather than replacing it.”

Eko’s technology will serve as the foundation for this program, helping the clinic deliver fast, accessible, and reliable screenings that support its preventive mission.
