Even for the trained ear of a doctor, a heart murmur is tough to hear. Now the Food and Drug Administration says an Oakland company can help. Eko Devices Inc. won FDA clearance this week for its machine learning-powered software coupled with a "smart stethoscope" to detect and characterize murmurs in adults and kids. It is the fifth OK for Eko going back to 2015, mainly for hardware and software that includes algorithms to detect atrial fibrillation and other heart conditions.
